Huh. LJ fail. (Again.)
So, LJ got caught trying to force everyone to specify male or female on their userinfo (suspicions are for advertising demographics), and is backpedaling lots and lots. Details here, including where to go to register your opinion on the matter, from

I've been poking at how to run a ficathon on LJ and Dreamwidth simultaneously for a while now. I might have to start looking into that more. :(
